A phishing scam has recently targeted some of the City and County of Broomfield’s (CCOB) permit applicants. Scammers have sent fraudulent invoices pretending to be a CCOB employee. These emails may look convincing because they use information taken from publicly available sources, such as public engagement websites and use your name, email or mailing address. However, they are not legitimate emails from CCOB. 

Please keep in mind:

• CCOB employee email addresses used for city and county business end in @broomfield.org. Be cautious of messages claiming to be from a CCOB employee that originates from another domain.
• Do not reply, click on links or provide any personal or financial information in a suspicious email.
• Emails from @usa.com are not authorized by the City and County of Broomfield and should be considered fraudulent. 

If you receive one of these suspicious emails:

• Do not pay the invoice or respond to the sender. 
• Take appropriate action by reporting these messages to your IT Department and/or delete and report the email using your report phishing features within your email provider.
• If you have already responded or made a payment, you should contact your local law enforcement immediately to report this crime.

If you receive a communication regarding your permit or development application that you are unsure is legitimate, please contact the City and County of Broomfield Planning Division at planning@broomfield.org to verify it before responding or making payment.
