Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman was recently appointed to serve on several committees for the National Association of Counties.

These appointments include:

• Justice and Public Safety Policy Steering Committee, member.
• International Economic Development Innovation Council, member.
• Midsize County Caucus, vice chair.
• Environment, Energy and Land Use Policy Committee, member.
• Great Lakes Regional Forum, member.

“I’m pleased to serve on these committees on the national level,” Kerkman said. “Being a part of these committees offers the opportunity to engage with partners from across the country, sharing our success stories and challenges, and bringing best practices back to Kenosha County.”

Kerkman is a returning member of the Justice and Public Safety Policy Steering Committee, which studies matters related to criminal justice and public safety systems, including law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security, crime prevention, juvenile justice, emergency management, fire protection and civil disturbances.

She is also a returning member of the International Economic Development Innovation Council, which seeks to elevate trends and innovations in how counties are participating in the global economy. The council also advises NACo on the organization’s economic and workforce development planning.

The Environment, Energy and Land Use Policy Committee, which is a new appointment for Kerkman, studies all matters pertaining to air, water, energy, and land use, including water resources and management, air quality management, energy facility siting, coastal management, parks and recreation, and more.

Launched in 2025, the Midsize County Caucus provides a forum for leaders of midsized counties to come together around shared challenges and opportunities. The caucus focuses on solutions that support counties serving diverse populations across urban, suburban and rural-adjacent regions.

The Great Lakes Regional Forum seeks to promote a clearer understanding of the mutual concerns of Great Lakes counties and their residents, establishing a single source of information concerning counties in the region. It is also a vehicle to advocate on behalf of Great Lakes counties on issues involving the federal government.
