The Eastern Summit County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing for general plan updates on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at the County Courthouse in Coalville (60 N. Main St). The planning commission will review proposed amendments to the general plan, listen to public comment, and vote on a recommendation to the County Council.

The Eastern Summit County General Plan provides a long-term framework for growth and development within the Eastern Summit County Planning Area. Periodic review and amendment help ensure that the plan’s vision, goals, and policies continue to reflect community priorities, changing conditions, and anticipated growth. Since adoption of the existing general plan, the planning area has experienced changes in population, development patterns, transportation needs, housing, and water resources. This update is intended to guide future growth while maintaining the qualities that make Eastern Summit County unique.

The general plan update has been developed through an extensive process involving county staff, the planning commission, and community input. The county’s "Our Summit" community visioning process and subsequent public engagement helped identify community priorities and values, including open space, community character, trails and recreation, housing options, transportation, and access to local services. This input, together with existing conditions, demographic and growth trends, infrastructure considerations, and county policies and regulations, has informed the development of the updated Plan.
