Cape Cod Firefighters Build Critical Skills Through Hands-On Training in West Barnstable
Published on: August 17, 2026
Instructors from the Cape Cod Center for Public Safety Training’s Fire Programs Division wrapped up a week of hands-on training today with the West Barnstable Fire Department.
Using NFPA-compliant training programs and a specialized roof prop, firefighters practiced the critical skills needed to safely and effectively ventilate structures during working fires. The hands-on exercises give firefighters an opportunity to build and reinforce these skills in a controlled training environment before they’re needed during an emergency.
Barnstable County’s Cape Cod Center for Public Safety Training, in coordination with the Cape Cod Fire Chiefs Association, provides training opportunities to all 19 fire departments across Cape Cod.
Through County-supported equipment, training props and mobile instruction, Fire Programs Division staff can bring training directly to departments across the region. This allows on-duty personnel to participate while also supporting drills and training for Cape Cod’s call and volunteer firefighters.

It’s part of an ongoing regional effort to make high-quality firefighter training accessible to departments across Cape Cod — and to help ensure our firefighters are prepared when the call comes.
