Deputy Cody James and Canine Creek recently completed a three-week canine training course at Highland Canine. The two will work together at Third Creek Middle School, where Deputy James serves as the School Resource Officer.

K9 Creek is certified in both narcotics detection and tracking, giving Deputy James another valuable resource to help keep students and staff safe. The presence of a trained detection canine on campus can serve as a deterrent to those who may consider bringing narcotics into the school.

K9 Creek’s role at Third Creek goes beyond school safety. Having a canine in the school can help break down barriers and open the door for communication between students and their School Resource Officer. A student who may have never approached Deputy James before might stop to pet Creek, ask a question, or simply say hello. That small interaction can lead to a conversation and help build trust and positive relationships.

Creek can also provide a calming and comforting presence for students. Whether a student is having a difficult day, experiencing a stressful situation, or just needs a friendly face and a wagging tail, Creek can offer a little extra support.
