“Make the Right Call” This Preparedness Month

FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick County Division of Emergency Management is pleased to announce, “Make the Right Call,” the first in a new series of annual public education campaigns designed to help residents prepare for emergencies through practical, achievable actions.

By using National Preparedness Month as the kickoff for an annual educational campaign, Frederick County Division of Emergency Management is working to change the conversation around preparedness. Traditional messaging about being prepared can make preparedness feel one-size-fits-all rather than recognizing the realities of how people live and what resources they have available.

“Our conversations about emergency preparedness need to start with where people are and recognize that preparedness looks different for every person and every household,” said Anthony Rosano, Director of Emergency Management. “Telling someone who is struggling to afford groceries or medication to build an emergency kit misses the mark. This new approach will connect people to preparedness in a way that feels meaningful and worthwhile to them.”

This year’s campaign focuses on helping residents understand the right number to call to get the help they need. “Make the Right Call” is built around a simple message: the right call helps connect you with the right help.

“Knowing how to get help in an emergency is an important part of being prepared,” said Rosano. “That starts with knowing when to call 9-1-1 and what to expect. It also means knowing where to turn for help with something urgent, but not life-threatening.”

The Division will continue to develop yearly campaigns that focus on practical building blocks of preparedness and resilience and announce them during the month of September in conjunction with National Preparedness Month.
