In response to Joe Lombardo’s embrace of deeply unpopular data centers, NV Dems is launching a new series to highlight every way he’s sold out Nevadans to keep his billionaire donors and Donald Trump happy. On day four, we’re highlighting how Lombardo and Trump are data centers’ number one cheerleaders. 

Since Lombardo gave data center companies $240 million in tax breaks, his “commanding officer” Donald Trump said to let data centers “reign” and those who oppose them “want to end up backwards and poor.” In reality, an overwhelming majority of Americans — including Republicans and red, rural communities — oppose the tech industry straining the power grids, exhausting our natural resources, and jacking up energy costs even more. 

On Lombardo’s watch, Nevadans are already facing rising water shortages and utility costs. Adding insult to injury, the Trump administration is also trying to cut Nevada’s allocation of Colorado River water by 71 percent over the coming years following Lombardo’s botched negotiations.

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Kate Sosland released the following statement:

“Just like his ‘commanding officer,’ Joe Lombardo is helping toxic data centers hike up utility bills and drain resources. After handing data centers $240 million in tax breaks, it’s clear that Lombardo is selling out Nevadans to score cheap political points with Donald Trump and his billionaire donors.”
