A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the month of August 2026 as "Appendix Cancer

Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Appendix cancer, also known as appendiceal cancer,

is a rare but serious disease, affecting approximately two to

nine people per million each year in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Although appendix cancer is genetically distinct

from colorectal cancer, its incidence has been rising

significantly in recent years, particularly among individuals

under 50 years of age; and

WHEREAS, Due in part to its rarity, appendix cancer is often

misunderstood and can be difficult to diagnose, resulting in

frequent delays or misdiagnoses that may negatively impact

patient outcomes and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, Symptoms of appendix cancer may be vague or absent

in early stages and many individuals are not diagnosed until the

disease has advanced, making treatment more complex and

challenging; and

WHEREAS, Treatment for appendix cancer varies based on type
