Character Counts! Seeks Volunteer Coaches for New School Year

As students return to classrooms for a new school year, Queen Anne’s County Character Counts! is seeking community members to volunteer as Character Counts! coaches in local schools.

Character Counts! coaches are caring adults who spend time in classrooms helping students explore the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Through conversations, activities and age-appropriate lessons, coaches help students understand how these values can be applied at school, at home and throughout their community.

Volunteer coaches are currently needed at schools throughout Queen Anne’s County, with a particular need for coaches at Sudlersville Elementary School. 

No teaching experience is required to become a coach. Character Counts! provides volunteers with training, lesson ideas, resources and ongoing support to help make their classroom visits successful.

Queen Anne’s County Government employees are also encouraged to consider volunteering. County employees may participate as Character Counts! coaches during their regular workday with permission from their supervisor.

Character Counts! is built on the belief that children and youth benefit from having caring and supportive adults in their lives. By volunteering in a classroom, coaches have an opportunity to build positive connections with local students while reinforcing the values that help create a stronger community.
