New Community Supervision Judicial Division Manager Selected

Officials with the NC Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) have promoted John “Jay” Craft to the position of Judicial District Manager (JDM) in Judicial District 8, effective Aug. 31.

In his new position, Craft will oversee Community Supervision operations in Greene, Lenoir and Wayne counties. District 8 includes 69 probation/parole officers and staff who supervise more than 2,300 individuals sentenced to probation, parole or post-release supervision.

“Jay Craft brings a wealth of experience to the District 8 JDM position,” said Leslie Cooley Dismukes, secretary for the Department of Adult Correction. “His management of specialty officer caseloads will be a great asset as he guides his team.”

Jay Craft began his career with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) in 1997 as a Correctional Officer at Greene Correctional Institution. In 2000, he transitioned to the role of Probation/Parole Officer in District 5 (New Hanover County) and subsequently served in the same capacity in District 8 (Lenoir County).

In 2017, Craft was promoted to Chief Probation/Parole Officer in District 3 (Pitt County), where he supervised officers assigned to the former Female CRV Center at Eastern Correctional Institution as well as those responsible for managing individuals on the sex offender caseload. He has also contributed to various departmental committees and actively participated in local re-entry councils.

Most recently, Jay served as the Assistant Judicial District Manager (AJDM), overseeing operations in Pitt County.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Mount Olive and has earned both Advanced and Intermediate Criminal Justice Certificates.
