Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of David J. Arthmann to the 17th Judicial Circuit Court bench on August 20.

Judge Arthmann currently serves as general counsel for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles in Tallahassee.

“Your appointment is evidence of my utmost confidence in your ability to serve with excellence and distinction,” Gov. DeSantis wrote in an August 19 letter to Judge Arthmann.

“It’s been an exciting week in the 17th,” Chief Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips said. “We are delighted with the appointment of Judge Arthmann and look forward to him joining the 17th Judicial Circuit.”

Judge Arthmann, a U.S. Navy veteran, is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University and the Florida State University College of Law. He has worked more than 20 years for the State of Florida, with experience at the Department of Corrections, the Department of Children and Family Services, and the Department of Agriculture and Human Services before joining the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles as general counsel.

“I am humbled and honored to have been selected to serve the people of the 17th Judicial Circuit,” Judge Arthmann said.

The appointment capped a busy week at the 17th Judicial Circuit, with Veronica N. Walker elected as a judge on August 18 and Gov. DeSantis elevating Judge Jeremy I. Franker from county court to circuit court on August 19.
