MPD Arrests Suspect in 40th Street Northwest Armed Robbery
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred in Northwest.
On Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 3:38 p.m., while walking, two suspects approached the victim in the 4500 block of 40th Street, Northwest. One of the suspects displayed a gun to the victim before taking the victim’s property and fleeing the scene.
On Thursday, August 20, 2026, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court bench warrant, 19-year-old Dawit Ghebreyesus, of Maryland, who was in custody at the Montgomery County Jail, was transferred to the D.C. Jail, where he was charged with Armed Robbery (Handgun).
